Thinking About Some Thoughts Can Create Dis-ease

Some people say that thoughts are neither good nor bad until we act on them. I say that thoughts can be healthy or unhealthy and immediately act on us spiritually, physically, and psychologically.

THOUGHTS OFTEN FLOAT BY LIKE CLOUDS

It is often best to use a story to explain. Heather had a thought that “her dad did not love her.” The thought was unhealthy for Heather. The thought is unhealthy because it made Heather create feelings that impacted her negatively physically and psychologically. This thought acted on [negatively impacted] Heather in mind, body, and soul. To further complicate the issue, the thought was tied to a belief she had about herself, a belief which was untrue.

THE TOTAL BODY IMPACT OF HEATHER’S THOUGHT

The thought was tied to a negative belief she held about herself; however, because she did not understand that she was creating her emotional feelings, she suffered needlessly. Trying to avoid the emotional discomfort, she turned to an external solution failing to realize that the solution was internal and involved deconstructing the belief, the untruth she was holding on to.

Perhaps you may ask:

  1. Why did Heather simply not allow the thought to float by?
  2. Why was she attached to the belief?
  3. Was there any basis in truth to this belief?
  4. Why was she believing and thinking this way?

HOW WE THINK IS BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCES

Heather’s curious mind was seeking an explanation because she wanted to understand. The thought lingered in her fertile mind. She perceived the world as a child through her childish lens, which distorted reality and presented her with an image that her childish mind believed was true.

When there were repeated incidences that corroborated her thought, it became a belief in her mind. Feeling alone, she had no one to turn to who could point out her mistake or misinterpretation. Thus, she held on to her belief and it became embedded in her mental framework and her emotional landscape.

Key to this, she did not know what was going on in her dad’s mind. She became a mind-reader and projected her thinking on to her dad. Folks, we are not mind readers, we can never know what is really going on in someone else’s mind unless they tell us honestly what they are thinking.

People behave or act in the way that they KNOW. We cannot BE better if we do not KNOW better. We cannot give love if we do not KNOW love. Also realize that some people may not even be aware that their behaviors or actions are being negatively perceived or interpreted.

THOUGHTS ARE NOT NECESSARILY REALITY

Our thoughts are not necessarily reality; however, they become our reality when they shape how we perceive and interact with the world. If your thought is unhealthy and you believe the meaning you attach to it, ALL your future actions will reflect that unhealthy belief you have about yourself or the world.

Furthermore, that unhealthy belief limits your potential and prevents you from having success in your life. For even if you think you want to accomplish something or become successful in some area, your limiting belief that you are not worthy or good enough will consistently cause you to unconsciously sabotage your attempts.

COMBAT NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND UNHEALTHY THINKING

The easiest thing to do is to seek the truth. What truth exactly do you need to seek? You need to know the truth about:

  1. Your worth [your value]
  2. Love
  3. Purpose
  4. Identity

Know that each of us was created from and by love, to be loved and to give love. Our circumstances and experiences do not define our identity or our worth. No one and nothing can add or take away from our value and worth.
