2 Things To Do Before Taking Action

You may believe and think that we act automatically, but there is a sequence of steps that go into every action we take. If you are trying to create a sustainable change in your lifestyle to improve your quality of life or to lose weight, it is important to understand the sequence.

THE SEQUENCE PRIOR TO ACTION

Understanding gives us information that we can use to make effective changes in our lives. Understand that having knowledge without application is why many people still struggle to live abundantly. I’ve written about the reasons this is so (denial and lack of trust) in a previous article. At the root (the beginning) of the sequence is our beliefs.

  1. Beliefs [usually grounded in lies and lacking love for self]
  2. Faulty patterns of thinking [which are not grounded in truth or reality]
  3. Emotions [that you create]
  4. Feelings [you do not WANT or STRUGGLE to deal with]
  5. Action [to distract, ease, or numb the dis-ease]

How does the emotion of anger, guilt, or shame make you feel? Remember, you are 100% responsible for creating your emotional feelings.

A SPIRIT OF POWER IS WITHIN YOU

You may think that you can’t break the sequence, because it is a habit that seems almost automatic and out of your control. However, that is a belief that is grounded in lies. If you are a child of God, you CAN do all things through Jesus Christ. This is where you must believe in the power and might of your Heavenly Father. He will give you the courage and strength to do what is needed to walk the healthy path. Thus, while as humans we cannot, as children of God we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to accomplish the task.

BELIEVE AND KNOW YOUR WORTH

For these two steps to work you must not only believe, but you must also know your value and worth as a child of God. God wants us healthy to accomplish the purpose He has for every one of us. When we are healthy, we can do much more to grow the kingdom of God, and we can truly enjoy the fruit of living abundantly. If you have been struggling with the belief that you are not valuable or worthy, or that you are not enough, please remember that is a lie that the devil wants you to hold on to so he can separate you from God. He uses lies to confuse and manipulate us. Remember, always check the validity of your beliefs.

2 THINGS TO DO TO INTERRUPT THE SEQUENCE

Be vigilant (mindful) of these constant attempts to manipulate you. Have a mindset that accepts God’s unconditional love for you. Trust that nothing is impossible with God. This is why it is important everyday to spend time with God as often as possible. Also, first thing in the morning, set your mind on God.

  1. PAUSE – so often we impulsively act without conscious thought. Think about the consequences of your action. Will you be healthier after taking that action, or will it just be another moment of instant gratification? Remember, our flesh is NEVER satisfied.
  2. PRAY – that God will give you clarity of mind, cleanliness of heart, and purity of soul to walk in the spirit and not in your flesh.

It only works if you use it. With practice, it will be a healthy habit in your life to pause and pray. When you pause, B.R.E.A.T.H.E., it really is an essential thing to do. Breathing helps to bring oxygen into your mind, which clears the confusion and allow you to remember your ‘WHY.’
