Do You Know Your Purpose In Life?

The unfortunate thing in life is that so many people do not know their purpose in life and as a result their lives lack meaning. The consequences of living a life without purpose and meaning can be seen in the world around us today.

A Life Without Purpose Is A Life Without Meaning

If you do not know why you were born, you will find yourself searching, consciously or unconsciously, for the reason.  The reason is our purpose, and that purpose gives our lives meaning.  Purpose gives you direction, helps you focus, gives you courage, builds your confidence, brings joy, peace and contentment to your mind, body, and soul. Purpose empowers and strengthens you to persevere in the face of life’s obstacles. Is it always easy? No! Is it always pleasant and enjoyable? No! However, it is always necessary to remember that every step forward, small or big, is a step towards accomplishing your ultimate goal. That ultimate goal is fulfilling your life’s purpose and that is what adds passion to your life. Yet, one must never forget that while the destination is appealing, the process of getting to the destination is called living and that journey must be fully embraced and enjoyed [passion].

When We Forget To Enjoy The Journey

I know, I was one of those people who got so caught up in the destination, I forgot to enjoy the journey. When we forget to enjoy the journey, life loses its flavor. Once life loses its flavor, we find ourselves focusing on the setbacks, the obstacles, the disappointments, the hurts, the rejections, and before you realize it many years of dissatisfaction have gone by. Thirty years later I was forced to stop and really examine my story. The story I had been telling myself since I was ten years old was a story full of lies and gross misunderstandings. What does a ten-year-old know about life? If your story is still that of a child, then perhaps it is time to re-write the narrative.

The STORY You Believe Is Shaping Your Life

Think about the story you are believing and if it is still the story of a child, it is time to rewrite that story with the truth. Because the story you are telling is the story you still believe, and your life is a reflection of those beliefs.  What we think and believe we manifest in our lives. This is not hocus pocus, this is a fact.  For what you think and believe is where you focus and where you focus is the direction you will take.  If you focus on the thought and belief that you are not enough or that you are a failure, you will never be enough and you will fail repeatedly. Eventually, after failing multiple times you will convince yourself that you were right to think and believe you are a failure and you will give up and become a failure.

Everyone Is On A Journey

That journey hopefully will take us to our best selves. Our best self is made possible, BEST YOU MADE POSSIBLE, when we remember to always pack love for the journey. Along the way, we may hit some road work and we may get re-routed, but we must never forget or lose sight of the destination [becoming our best selves]. You are worth the investment of your money, energy, and time. Travel safely with love’s guidance and protection.

  1. Just read “Do you know your purpose”. Had another conversation with a Board President of a 501C3 about the organization’s purpose and needed to read this to better understand my role as Board VP and to understand me and where I am going. Susan, Thank you!
